Local Artist Donates Sculpture To Owen County Heritage and Culture Center

Memories Of A Link In A Lifetime

From the start of his professional career, well-known local artist Mark Wallis of MAW Studios has been recognized internationally for his artistic excellence. By all accounts his work extends beyond the restraints of traditional sculpture by flourishing into a new genre of expression; a kind of masterpiece previously unexplored.

Renowned for his freestanding kinetic sculptures which maintain an unparallel grace and agility while becoming a fusin of abstract and contemporary art, Wallis recently installed his latest work outside the Owen County Heritage and Culture Center in Spencer.

Entitled, "Memories of a Link in a Lifetime," Wallis noted that while in addition to being maintenance free, he opted against painting the piece so that it maintains a "rustic, natuaral look that works well with the heritage and culture center and its surrounding structures."

While sculptures such as these have become the focus of his work in recent years, Wallis said he has utilized various other materials as well in order to further define himself as a versatile artist. These materials, which include limestone, stell, and a plethora of exotic woods, he says help to express his deep passion of life and love, a passion that produces art radiating with a contagious energy.
