Tour the Square
Student Art Event at Carnegie
Saturday, April 9, 2011
10 a.m.-noon
- Open to students in grades 7-10.
- Meet at the Carnegie Building on the south east corner of the Spencer Courthouse Square (110 E. Market Street), with a sketchbook,
camera, or video camera.
- Tour the Square with history buffs. Learn about local history and architecture. We might be able to get a bird's-eye view
from the Courthouse tower. Make sketches or take pictures to record your impressions.
- Share a light lunch and get inspired about creating an artwork based on what you saw during the tour.
- Go home and create a work of art - a photograph, painting, drawing, poem, sculpture, video, multi-media product,
or an artwork in another medium of your choosing - focusing on a building, a story, or a detail from the Square that inspired you.
- Return your artwork to the Carnegie on or by Saturday, April 23.
- Your artwork will be put on display at the Carnegie.
- Several local artists and leaders will judge the artworks and award monetary prizes for best middle school entry
and best high school entry.
